So, why contribute?

This short film is covering a topic that is still ignored in most media, which is women having body hair. While this concept has become more accepted over time, it still carries a stigma and people are less likely to see any representation of it, much less examination of the culture that pushes women to rid themselves of it. Additionally, this story is told from the perspective of the woman experiencing criticism as the subject of the story. So often in horror films, women are perceived only as the object of terror and not given agency to reflect or fight back in meaningful ways. This film will challenge those stereotypes and actively work against them. Also, this film will be coming at a time when people on social media are pushing self-care in a way that feels less like care and more like an obsession. It is easy for social media to enhance the intensity of beauty standards rather than dismantle their oppression. Ideally, this film will serve as an alternative to that-- one that critiques and shows how dangerous these standards can be.
